'97 Explorer V8 - Hissing tube causing rough idle

I need some help to find out what is supposed to be connected to this tube. It's on the drivers side rear corner bottom of the upper manifold. If I put my finger over it I get suction like there is supposed to be something over it or connected to it. The idle is bad when it is not covered. If someone has a picture of what is supposed to be here that would be great!

If nothing is supposed to be connected or covering it, is there another issue why this new sucking noise is causing an issue?

Thanks for any help,

Lou

That's a fair size hose nipple, I'd check the brake booster and PCV valve hoses. If there's a lot of sludgy buildup in the nipple then probably PCV. In case you're getting misfires, I wouldn't drive it like that or at least plug it as misfires can ruin the catalytic converter and O2 sensors.

I put a new valve cover over it and everything is fine now. I found the old one just below the valve stuck in the spark plug wires below the valve. Must have come loose and popped off. All is good now.

Thanks!
