Electronic Throttle Control System?

I was told by my salesman that 03's have the electronic throttle control system(fly by wire). After closer inspection of my engine(4.0), I realized that she was lying. I swear I saw a throttle control cable. Am I right or is she? I noticed that the 04' brocures mention it, but my brocure for my late 03' doesn't. [/i]

Is there a throttle cable connected to the gas pedal? I would think that would mean that it wouldn't be fly by wire. Not sure, though.

Re: Electronic Throttle Control System?

those silly salesman/women  It is amazing how little they know about the product that they sell. I had one ask me about my painted calipers, he said he didnt know they came that way

Last week, I had the service advisor at the Ford dealer ask me if mine came with the hood scoop. Then the lot porter wanted to know if those aluminum pedals were standard.

Re: Electronic Throttle Control System?

I sure am glad I got an 03. It is newer than the 02's without that side explorer cladding crap. And doesnt have the retarded MAS and DBW systems that the 04's got. Perfect for me wanting to mod it. hehe.

I totally agree Robert! One more thing to go wrong huh? I also couldn't agree with you more on the "cladding." That's why I love the way a black 03 XLS looks.

Yeah, these are the guys that are working on and selling our vehicles-scary isn't it!

That same stupid salesperson told me that the 4.0 has a failsafe mode(when it runs out of coolant it shuts down one bank of cylinders and acts like an airpump to aid in cooling the motor). Not true! That is true only for the 4.6.
