Just saying Hi

I just bought a 2002 XLT from a person I know that has a tranny shop. He bought it because the tranny was shot and he installed a new one. Other than that the only issues I have so far are there is a door switch that is bad so it always says "door ajar" and I have the door lock buttons by the drivers door but have no code, I also need tires. The car has about 150,000 miles on it.

Hi. The factory unlock code should be in the owners manual as a separate leaflet page (unique to the vehicle). It should also be on a sticker on the security module.

In past years that module was in the rear left quarter panel, forward of the jack, assessed with the removable trim panel cover off. If you don't find it there, then it could be on the other side rear panel or moved forward some, just behind the rear door column (pull the adjacent trim panel).

Consult the owners manual for how to set a new code if you prefer something else that is more easy to memorize because it has some significance to you. AFAIK, (on earlier model years) that will not remove the factory code, just set an additional, 2nd code, but just in case it does, be SURE to write down the new code somewhere.

Thanks JC. The owners manual was not in the car when I bought it so I'll look for the control module. I don't really see that I would be using this but I am one of those people that if it is there I want it to work.

The Pannel just behind passenger rear seat, pull it out a little and the lock code is in there.
