Explorer Tips and Woes

I have an '09 XLT, fuel mileage is poor, no response from any members on that issue. I had tried the K&N filter, thinking that it might have fouled the intake air monitoring, I removed it and cleaned the sensor. I had a '99 that regularly produced 18MPH in mixed driving, the '09 has not indicated that value even for highway driving. Both 2WD, seems they should perform better!

I developed a miss on one cylinder with my 2000 Sport a while back.
After replacing all 6 injectors, the drivability AND fuel mileage increased
dramatically. With that in mind, I'd suggest running some fuel injector
cleaner through it. Spark plugs might help too, especially if they haven't
been changed it a while. Good luck.

Explorer Tips and Woes

Thank you for responding, as I mentioned, I had previously owned a '99 XLS, decent mileage, very reliable, the '09 has been a disappointment due to poor fuel mileage and some of the other issues I've experienced. I replaced the spark plugs and wires after buying it, I have run fuel injector cleaner/treatment many times. I have had it analyzed several times. The '09 has never equaled the fuel economy of the '99, and that amazes me. I would not be surprised if it had been recalibrated as it runs like a scalded dog, but fuel economy has never surpassed 18MPG. The '99 regularly beat that! These were both 2WD Explorers, and should have performed better than the 4WD versions. I had hoped that someone else on the forum had experienced the same issues and had found a way to improve the situation.
