I have a 97 Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC that has 250K miles on it. The motor has a blown head gasket and timing chain issues so I'd rather swap for a lower mileage motor. I have a 4.0L SOHC out of a 2004 Mustang. Can I put it in my 97 Explorer with no major problems? I was planning to have to change the intake, oil pan, valve covers, etc. Is this feasible ?

Where do you live? A 250K explorer is going to have all kinds of corrosion issues, tranny issues etc. Why do you want to fix this? You would be say ahead to buy a gen 4 Explorer. 10 years newer. Better tranny, less rust, less nasty interior, bluetooth..
