The AWD is still missunterstood a lot. AWD means all wheels are driven all of the time, there is no selection, or part time application.
4WD basically means that the front is locked to the rear at the exact same speed. 4WD can never be used on dry pavement in tight turns.
In a straight line there would be no difference noticed between AWD and 4WD. AWD handles most light off road duty fine. Real hard core off roaders hate AWD mainly because it has no lower gearing, but it also isn't great for serious off roading. People do get by with it though, and I'm a street guy, so it's been great for me.
AWD is wondeful for driving on delicate grass, as in towing a trailer through a nice yard. I have a friend who often has to put up with spinning tracks from vehicles in his back yard(garage). Mine rarely turns a tire, only in wet grass on hilly areas. Good luck with the truck,
