I had the opportunity to drive my brother's '93 Explorer, 4.0 V6, 4WD, with 102K miles this weekend and noted some key (to me) differences in 'performance'. Its always bugged me to hear about his better MPG.

For example, his engine turns 1500-1600 RPM at 55. My 2001 XLT, 4.0 V6, 4WD turns around 2000 RPM at 55 - is that typical ? Does that make sense with my higher horse power ? (Note I have 4.10 rearend - not sure about his.)

Mine X just seems torque-y-er.

Any comments ?

Thanks,

Dave

It's because you have the 4.10 rear end and his sounds like he has the 3.27 which would give him better economy.

Do you and him have the same engine type, OHC our OHV, there is a big difference in performance.
