I have a 2008 Explorer Sport Trak 4.6l V8. The power steering works fine while turning left but doesn't work at all turning right. Anyone have any ideas? Fluid level is fine, no obvious leaks. I don't know whether to look at the ps pump or the rack and pinion assembly. Or somewhere else.

Thank you!

Do you mean it gets in a bind and refuses to turn right even if you muscle the steering wheel to turn it manually, or just has no power assist so it is hard to turn.

In the former case I would wonder if you have suspension damage and pull the wheels to do an inspectio.

In the latter case if the pump is not making an awful racket and the pulley isn't wobbling, it is probably the rack itself. With no leaks present, there isn't anything else to it unless your steering shaft itself gets in a bind.
