As I was getting out of my 2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer I found this plastic part on the drivers floor mat, what is it for?

Don't know but my first guess would be part of the hood release mechanism. Is the lever for that still there and functioning normally?

It looks like the AC/Vent deflector which is attached to the vent deflector that directs the flow of AC either to the windshield or face. Take the glove door off and you will see a vacuum canister by the center dash area that this is supposed to be attached to..
